A weekend in Manchester
Manchester isn’t just a city young people in the U.K. want to visit, it’s increasingly becoming a place they want to relocate. Media city and other great job opportunities, lower living costs and great nightlife means many young people are going to Manchester after uni or leaving London for this city.
Not going to lie, after such a brilliant weekend I’ve been tempted myself.
To stay
We wanted something cheap and cheerful- we weren’t going to be in the hotel much!
We stayed at Selina in the Northern Quarter, clean bright rooms, friendly staff and spot on location!
To eat
After our first night out, we refuelled ourselves (mind, body and soul) at the feel good cafe round the corner from our hotel. We were lucky to get a table, the place was very busy and we could see why! Chai Lattes, beetroot hummus, avo and eggs, it’s a millennial’s dream.
So after our second night out we needed more than avo on toast, a full English and sugary tea was needed and this place hit the spot. The northern quarter might be brunch capital of the world, so many great places to choose from and you won’t be disappointed with this place.
Have fun
Our first night we had dinner and drinks at Menagerie. From the northern quarter it’s best to get a taxi to Salford (taxis are cheaper than buses another goal for Manchester vs London). We got a few small plates each and more than a few cocktails. It was all delicious, great quantity and quality. The atmosphere was top tier! Performers, DJs, and when you’ve finished your meal dancing on the podium. Some people turned up at 10/11 to get drinks at the bar and join the party, but if you can book a table for dinner for 8ish it’s definitely worth it as you get to see the performers, and keep the table for the rest of the night with no minimum spend.
We got there at 8 and left at 1am. One of the best nights out I’ve had, and spent £60 (like a standard 2 hour London brunch). If you love food, cocktails, getting dressed up and glam and dancing til the early hours this place is for you!!!
Okay so the main reason we visited Manchester was to go to Warehouse Project. My friends usually go Ibiza every year but with clubs on the magic island still closed we chose Warehouse Project instead. Wow it was worth the hype! The converted warehouse space is massive! Having been in lockdowns and not visiting proper clubs it made it extra special. As we walked in we could feel the music beating our chests. If you love house music then WHP has to be on your bucket list.
We initially booked Manchester for a particular music event, ignorant of all the other amazing things this city has to offer.
So what are you waiting for? Book your train and let the north of England show you a great time.
