Looking for the best places to visit in Krabi, Thailand? Whether you’re planning a short stop or an extended stay, this concise travel guide covers the top things to do in Krabi, where to stay, and what local food you must try while you’re there.
We spent two amazing weeks in Krabi, and while many people prefer to island-hop or travel across Thailand, Krabi is a great base if you’d rather unpack and enjoy one beautiful spot at a slower pace.
Top Things to Do in Krabi, Thailand
There’s no shortage of day trips and adventures in and around Krabi. Here are some of the must-see attractions and activities to add to your itinerary:
1. Visit the Phi Phi Islands
These iconic islands are famous for their turquoise waters, towering limestone cliffs, and stunning beaches — including Maya Bay from The Beach. You can book a day trip by speedboat or longtail boat.
2. James Bond Island
Featured in The Man with the Golden Gun, this unique limestone island in Phang Nga Bay is another popular excursion. Combine it with a kayaking tour or a visit to the floating village for a full-day experience.
3. Kayak Through Mangroves
Explore Krabi’s hidden lagoons and winding waterways on a kayaking tour through the mangrove forests. Peaceful, scenic, and a perfect way to connect with nature.
4. Climb the Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Suea)
A real challenge with 1,237 steep steps, but the panoramic view at the top is worth every drop of sweat. Don’t forget water, and start early to avoid the midday heat.
5. Visit the Monkey Temple
Another spiritual site that’s home to dozens of cheeky monkeys. Be cautious with food and bags — they’re very curious.
6. Ride ATVs Through the Jungle
A fun and muddy way to explore Krabi’s countryside. Expect off-road trails, river crossings, and jungle views.
7. Relax at Railay Beach
Accessible only by boat, Railay Beach is a must for sunset views, rock climbing, or simply soaking up the sun. It feels like a private island but is just minutes away from the mainland.
Where to Stay in Krabi
We stayed at the stunning Dusit Thani Krabi Beach Resort, and it felt like a dream from the moment we arrived. The reception opens up to lush gardens with the sea beyond, making it one of the most scenic welcomes I’ve ever experienced.
- Beachfront location
- Peaceful setting
- On-site restaurants and pools
It’s a great choice if you want a relaxing resort stay in Krabi with easy access to day trips.
What to Eat in Krabi
Food in Krabi is a highlight in itself — from beachside seafood buffets to traditional Thai desserts. Here are some of my favourite food experiences:
Beachfront Seafood Buffet
At Dusit Thani, we had an incredible all-you-can-eat steak and lobster buffet on the beach. It was our most indulgent meal, but still only cost about £20 per person — unbelievable for what you get.
Mango Sticky Rice
A Thai dessert classic. Sweet, creamy, and refreshing — I had it almost daily!
Deep-Fried Ice Cream
Sounds strange, tastes amazing. If you spot it on a menu, don’t hesitate to order.
Sunset Dining at Sa-ing
Just around the corner from the resort is a stretch of local bars and restaurants — perfect for sunset views and dinner. Sa-ing was our favorite spot. We went back twice for delicious Thai food and cocktails in a laid-back setting.
Final Thoughts: Why Krabi is Worth a Longer Stay
If you’re looking for a destination where you can slow down, relax, and still have access to epic day trips, Krabi is ideal. It offers the best of both worlds — beautiful beaches, lush jungles, rich culture, and easy access to iconic Thai islands.
