On my road trip from Perth to Esperance I stopped in York for a few hours but it would also make the perfect day trip from Perth. York is a charming town and the oldest in land settlement in WA.

How to get to York

From Perth, York is about a 1 hour 20 minute drive. If you don’t have a car there are a number of day tours that take you to the town.

Where to eat

I stopped for a coffee and toast at Jules Shoppe Cafe which I would definitely recommend. With a quirky vibe, great coffee and fully loaded ham and cheese toasted sandwich I can’t fault it. Plus it’s a great location opposite the Motor Museum.

Speaking of which, the York Motor Museum was definitely the highlight for me. For a small entrance fee you have access to an excellent car collection including the ute from Crocodile Dundee!

Walking around the town, there are a number of op shops, sweet shops and sewing/embroidery shops which adds to York’s charm.

I’d also recommend York Town Hall as a good photo opportunity.

Why it’s great stop for a South West Loop road trip

As it’s such a lovely small town to walk around its great to stretch your legs while on a road trip. Although it’s not far from Perth there’s not many towns with much to stop for plus it’s nice to have a little reward for getting out of the metro area traffic. There is plenty of parking, an IGA supermarket, public toilets and petrol stations.
