Tron Lightcycle and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind are two of the latest new rides at Disney-world. Unlike other roses there is no stand by queue you have to use the virtual queue or pay for a lightning lane. This blog post is a how to guide on using the queue and how to maximise your chance of getting on these amazing rides.
What are the rules for the virtual queue?
You can only join the virtual queue for each ride once a day through the My Disney Experience App. Opportunity to join us at 7am (which you can do at home) or at 1pm from within the park. If you are staying at a Disney Deluxe Resort you can also join the queue at 6pm on extra magic hour nights. You’re given a queue number with estimated wait time and when your group is called (be sure to enable notifications) you have 1 hour to join the queue.
When is best to join the virtual queue?
You are not guaranteed to get a space on the queue and even if you do you are not guaranteed to go on the ride. We found it best to join at 7am as in our experience we always got a spot and got to go on the ride between 9am and 1pm. If you join at 1pm you have to wait for everyone in the morning to go and if there is stormy weather (as is common in Florida) the ride might be closed and reducing the chance of you getting on the ride. Also you have to be in the park at 1pm and might not get on until 8.30pm that’s a very long day in the park. I wouldn’t bank on getting a space on the extra magic hours as we didn’t manage to and we visited in off season.
Other tips
Be sure to link your park tickets and reservation (if staying at Disney Resort) to your mobile app on your first day so you don’t miss out on any opportunities to join virtual queues for these two rides.
Both rides are fantastic and in the top 3 (along with Avatar). Personally, Cosmic Rewind was my favourite, with intensity without any big drops. I found Tron more intense but after the initial launch it’s fairly tame.
