The West End borough of Brisbane is the Arts district of the city. As well as great restaurants and bars there’s a number of world class street art on display. While some are obvious others are more hidden gems which feel like a stolen secret when you find them. This guide will help you plan the perfect afternoon in Brisbane’s trendy West End.
The best street art in Brisbane
There are so many amazing street artists who’s work is in the West End. There are numerous works by Sofles including the mural of a baby with a paint canister at Browning Street Car Park.
Fish Lane is probably my favourite as there’s so many art pieces so close together. A highlight being “Head in the Clouds” by Fintan Magee a Sydney based artist. You also need to find the 3 tiny doors down Fish Lane. There are articles that point out where they are but I think it’s way more fun to find them yourself!
Where to eat
Anna’s Banh Mi has queues down the road every lunchtime and for good reason. The best Banh Mi I’ve had outside of Vietnam and at reasonable prices. My go to is the classic with extra pate. You can order online for pick up which I’d recommend if you’re on your lunchtime. I once waited 45 minutes (it was totally worth it).
Rich and Rare is one of the many elegant restaurants in this area. They currently have a $50 power banquet menu which me and my friend had one Saturday lunchtime. The food was amazing including barramundi, scallops, oysters and steak. Paired with their appletini it was the perfect afternoon spent at a really reasonable price.
Where to drink
There are a number of watering holes in the West End. For a quirky underground vibe I’d recommend The Burrow. Although I haven’t been Next Episode Bar looks amazing. It’s a speakeasy down Fish Lane where you need to enter a code at a Barber Shop phone to be let in.
