Cape Le Grand National Park in WA is home to arguably Australia’s most beautiful beach: Lucky Bay. What can’t be argued is the fact that Lucky Bay has the whitest sand in Australia, as studied by a type of scientist that I do not know the name of, which in turn makes the water extra blue. This guide will help you plan a visit to a gem in the beautiful South West of Australia.

How to get to Cape Le Grand National Park

Cape Le Grand is around 50 minutes from Esperance or 8 hours from Perth. If you don’t have a car and are flying to Esperance you will need to hire a car to visit Cape Le Grand as there aren’t any public transport options. There are also some South West Loop tours from Perth that include Cape Le Grand but they are pretty expensive.

How much does it cost to enter Cape Le Grand National Park?

Like most National Parks in Western Australia it costs $17 (AUD) per vehicle.

Where to stay overnight?

You can book a camping spot at Lucky Bay, where dawn and dusk you’ll see kangaroos hopping along the beach! As I was visiting as part of a road trip in my 2 wheel drive I didn’t feel confident enough to camp so I stayed in a motel in Esperance but if I went again I definitely would want to camp as this National Park is so beautiful and Esperance Town itself isn’t amazing.

What to see and do in Cape Le Grand National Park

Hellfire Bay

This beautiful bay is a perfect swim spot. All the beaches here have a car park so is accessible when driving a 2 wheel drive. They also have toilets and picnic areas.

I believe Hellfire bay gives Lucky Bay a run for its money over the title of Australia’s most beautiful beach

Lucky Bay

As I caught sight of this bay I audibly gasped- I took my glasses off thinking I must have sunglasses on but the water really was that blue.

The sand is very fine and compact so probably best to bring a beach chair as the ground is very firm. If you’re around at dawn or dusk you’ll have the opportunity to see kangaroos hopping around the beach.

Frenchman Peak

If you fancy stretching your legs after a long drive from Perth the Frenchman Peak is a great hiking trail with stunning views of the National Park.

I myself didn’t do the hike but I did pull over in the car to take some views of the peak itself.

Overall, I couldn’t recommend Cape Le Grand enough. Not only was it a highlight of my Perth to Esperance road trip but of my travels in Australia overall.
