Esperance is nestled in the South West of Australia. 8 hours drive from Perth, the world’s most isolated city already, the beaches here are truly unspoilt and on every traveller’s bucket list. This guide covers some of the top spots to see.

Getting to Esperance

The 8 hour drive from Perth can be broken up with a stop at Wave Rock in Hyden or Lake Grace. I chose Wave Rock as I’d been wanting to see this iconic landmark for years. Between Wave Rock and Esperance the best place to stop for fuel and supplies is Ravensthorpe where there is some cool silo art to check out.

Where to stay

Most visitors either camp at Cape Le Grand or stay in a hotel or BnB in Esperance Town. I stayed a motel in Esperance Town which was a great location for visiting both the national park and the beaches closer to Esperance.

Cape Le Grand National Park

I’ve written a whole article just on this National Park. Key to note, this is where you’ll find Lucky Bay and Hellfire Bay. Lucky Bay is the iconic beach with the whitest sand in Australia and kangaroos that hop along the beach.

Twilight Beach

I wouldn’t swim over to the rock as visitors have been left stranded after great whites started circling round it! However, having a paddle and enjoying the bay is a must. I visited on a cloudy day and although it wasn’t as blue as pictures online it was still stunning to look at.

West Beach

Driving along the coat there are almost too many beaches to stop at. Pretty much do a beach crawl leaving you dizzy and dazed from the mere beauty. West Beach was one of my favourites with the rigid landscape seeping into the sea.

Lovers’ Bay

This can be accessed from the same car park as Twilight Beach and I imagine will be less crowded than Twilight in the peak summer season.
