The South West of Australia hosts many beautiful destinations such as Esperance and Margaret River. 5 hours away from Perth, Albany and Denmark offer world class beaches and remote stays surrounded by trees and kangaroos for the perfect get away from the city.

Two People’s Bay Nature Reserve

I drove through Albany on my way to Denmark on Day 3 of my Perth to Esperance Road Trip so only had time to visit one beach: Little Beach in Two People’s Bay Nature Reserve. I wish I had spent longer in this national park as it was absolutely stunning. There was plenty of parking at Little Beach, although it was cloudy the water was so brilliantly blue. I wouldn’t recommend swimming at this beach as when I visited the waves were very powerful but listening to them crash into the rocks was an experience in itself.

Elephant Rocks, Denmark

The rocks poking out of the sand really is a sight to behold and great swimming spot and view point. This was one of the most accessible beaches with ramp access.

Greens Pool, Denmark

Although the weather wasn’t exactly playing ball in Denmark I still enjoyed a swim at Greens Pool which is only a short walk from the car park. Unlike Little Beach in Albany and Lucky Bay in Esperance Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks are not part of a pay to access National Park so you can visit for free with still plenty of great parking spots.

Where to stay?

I spent the night in a motel in Denmark which was my favourite stay of the trip. At the Koorabup motel my room/chalet had its own terrace where I could sit with a cup of coffee and watch kangaroos jump by while it lightly rained on my final morning. Being from the UK, I am used to spot of rain and listening to it and seeing the green trees all around felt like being back in the New Forest.

Where to eat?

I popped next door to the Denmark Tavern which had great indoor and beer garden table options. I perched outside and ordered surf and turf to enjoy on my final night of my road trip and it did not disappoint.

On my drive back to Perth I stopped at Mount Barker Bakery about an hour north of Denmark for their surf and turf pie and pistachio croissant which were both outstanding. In a small country town there was a queue out the door for this place and it is certainly worth the hype.
