Girls holidays: Ibiza vs Marbella

Planning a girls holiday this year? Here’s a guide on two of the most popular destinations

Clubs and parties

Ibiza

Okay, Ibiza has to be clubbing capital of the world. For a small island there are so many options for club events to go to all through the week. Personally, my favourite events for the week are:

  • Monday- Circo Loco at DC10
  • Tuesday- Kisstory at Ocean Beach
  • Wednesday – Paradise at DC10
  • Saturday- Ants at Ushuaia then onto Elrow at Amnesia
  • Sunday- Pete Tong at Blue Marlin

I always get my tickets from Ibiza Spotlight and book these in the months leading up to the holiday so I don’t spend as much all in one go!

Marbella

Beach clubs (for the day):

Clubs/ bars (for the evening)

Restaurants

Ibiza

  • Skinny Kitchen– great to get some goodness in you to help fuel a week of parties
  • Cafe Mambo– dinner, cocktails and DJs playing great tunes with the San Antonio sun setting in the background. If you want a quick pre drink get a few tinnies from the shop and join the crowd watching the sunset a few hundred yards away. Same music, same tunes but a cheaper pre drink alternative before you pay $18 for a beer in the clubs.

Marbella

  • La Sala– for a quieter night go for dinner and drinks with a bit of a buzzy atmosphere

Getting around

Ibiza

Although clubs and events are spread out across the white isle the public transport is fantastic. There’s busses all through the day to get you to the Old Town, beautiful beaches, the airport etc. At night there is a Disco Bus which runs every hour/ 30 minutes between the clubs and Bossa/ San Antonio (the two places you’re most likely to stay).

Marbella

Once you’re in Puerto Banus all the beach clubs and nightclubs are very close together so is easy to walk/ get a taxi. However, it’s not as easy to explore outside without a car and getting to the airport you’ll need a private transfer which is quite a bit of money (Malaga Airport is 40 minutes away).

Other things to do

Okay, this is where Ibiza really shines. Due to the great bus system there’s so much you can do/see. There’s also great boat trips you can do too including:

  • Es Vedra
  • Cala Basa
  • Cala Comte
  • Hippie markets
  • Old Town

I admit, I didn’t venture out to Marbella Old Town or the wider area so can’t entirely advise on this. If you’re looking for more than just clubbing and dining then I’d definitely recommend Ibiza out of the two.

Overall

Both are fabulous places to visit with your friends. I’d say Marbella is great if you’re in a bigger group and are going just for a weekend but if you’re going for a full week you’ll have more to do in Ibiza. Ibiza is more boho, enjoy the music in your sandals whereas Marbella is more glam (get your wedges out!). Either way I’m sure I’ll be back to both places in the future!
