From the beach to the bar: a guide to Barcelona

This guide will help you make the most of your trip to Barcelona, whether you’re visiting for a weekend or a week.

Barcelona is a great versatile destination, combining a city break and beach holiday.

What to do

You need to visit the Sagrada Familia (Gaudi Cathedral) when in Barcelona. I’d also recommend other Gaudi buildings if you have time to really appreciate this style of architecture that plays a bit part in the city’s culture.

Camp Nou is a must visit for any football fans. Either take a day tour or if you have the money (and the luck) get tickets to see a game!

Make the most of the beach! If you’re visiting in the summer, I’d recommend getting your sight-seeing done in the morning while it’s cooler then relax on the beach (and have a traditional siesta) and snooze on the beach.

What to eat

Tapas, paella and sangria- the three amigos you need to stick to when in Spain! If you think restaurants are quite at 7/8pm that’s because in Spain they tend to eat later say 10pm (which is why you need a siesta in the afternoon!).

Where to have fun

I’d recommend Las Ramblas and the Marina for dinner before heading out to local bars. Carpe Diem Barcelona has a lovely view of the beach and gets quite lively in the early hours.

If you’re looking to go clubbing you might want to have a disco nap* after dinner as the clubs don’t open until 1am and don’t get busy until 4am.

*A disco nap is what me and my friends call a quick nap before going out clubbing/dancing. After a few round of Ibiza you’ll be an expert in the disco nap.
