While this blog already has several guides on South Wales including the Brecon Beacons and Gower Peninsula, Swansea city itself is a great base for your trip. This guide will focus on spots within the city including beaches, coffee and brunch spots, and other must do-s.

The best local beach in Swansea: Caswell Bay

Caswell Bay offers stunning cliff views, excellent surf for beginner surfers and a coastal walk to Langland Bay. There is a small car park which fills up pretty quickly so would suggest arriving early on the weekend. There’s also a few coffee shops/cafes which is perfect to warm up after a cold dip or coastal walk.

Enjoy independent bakeries and coffee shops

Stuarts Artisan Bakery- delicious focaccia sandwiches, almost impossible to finish in one sitting, offering both quality and quantity.

Crafty Smuggler- there’s a number of coffee shops but this one is a particular favourite. Seating outside in their courtyard as well as in it’s a great spot for a flat white and almond croissant.

Sam’s Cafe- best breakfast in town for a full fry up with quality stuff.

Shopping in Mumbles

If you want to stroll around boutique shops from fashion, books and food then Mumbles high street will be your bag. There’s also a number of restaurants, pubs as well as the pier to walk down if you’re spending more time in this part of Swansea.

See an Egyptian mummy in Swansea

If you’re visiting on a particular rainy day where a trip to the beach is off the cards, I’d day the best thing to do in the city is visit the Swansea Museum. On the second floor you can see a preserved Egyptian mummy. It is a little claustrophobic in the room but a very cool experience.

And finally

No trip to Swansea is complete without a visit to Joe’s Ice Cream. Using their original recipe since 1922 Joe’s is an institution and never disappoints. I always get a scoop of vanilla with hundreds and thousands (sprinkles) and occasionally one of their moorish milkshakes.
