The capital of Australia’s Sunshine State has been a bit drizzly lately. Luckily this city has so much to offer there is plenty to do in Brisbane on a rainy day.
Free museums
Museum of Brisbane, Queensland Museum and Gallery of Modern Art all have free exhibitions you can enjoy. Perfect way to spend a few hours when the weather isn’t playing ball. Brisbane is known for being a cultural hub in Australia so a rainy day is the perfect excuse to soak that up (no pun intended).
Cinema
There are a number of high quality cinemas in Brisbane including an IMAX. My personal favourite is Palace Cinemas down James Street. James Street itself is a lovely place to go no matter the weather. Coffee shops, restaurants and bakeries (I would say shopping but only if you have a lot of $ to spare). This is a boutique cinema with limited seating, the seats being wide and recliner and the option to buy wine/cocktails to bring in.
Visit a botanical garden or park
Brisbane has so many beautiful parks and gardens. Chuck on a rain mac or hold an umbrella to see the greenery in all its glory. Mount Coot-ha Botanical Gardens has turtles, goanas, water dragons as well as beautiful flora and fauna. New Farm Park has lots of coffee shops nearby to enjoy too.
Bar hop
While Felon’s Brewing Co is renowned for its stunning view of story bridge this institution also has heaps of indoor seating and a great food/drinks menu to enjoy.
Banquet/tasting menu
A number of up market restaurants in Brisbane offer tasting menus. Recently, me and a friend tried Rich and Rare’s Power Banquet menu. At only $50 AUD this was an absolute steal and included oysters, scallops, barramundi and steak! Their cocktails are also delicious and a great way to spend a weekend afternoon.
